We are excited to announce a strategic collaboration between LCA4BIO and the ESCIB project, two pioneering initiatives dedicated to advancing the sustainability of the bio-based economy in Europe.
LCA4BIO: Pioneering Sustainability Methodologies
LCA4BIO is committed to developing and validating new, enhanced, standardized, and precise methodologies for assessing environmental impacts and circularity within bio-based systems. Our focus is on creating tools that support the green transition of European industries by enabling them to evaluate the sustainability performance of bio-based products. Our methodologies incorporate prospective life cycle assessment approaches, taking into account upscaling and future scenarios with manageable levels of uncertainty using Integrated Assessment Models.
ESCIB: Holistic Assessment for Bio-based Systems
ESCIB’s primary objective is to support the sustainability of the bio-based economy in Europe by developing comprehensive, robust, and fully operational methodologies for assessing the sustainability of bio-based systems at various technology-readiness levels (TRLs). ESCIB employs a holistic life-cycle approach to evaluate environmental impacts and circularity along bio-based value chains, addressing potential socio-economic trade-offs. This integrated methodology aligns perfectly with the ambitions of the European Green Deal (EGD) and the Circular Economy Action Plan (CEAP). With the involvement of five innovative industry partners, ESCIB ensures the high applicability of its methods, which can be used by certification organizations to label and certify products, benefiting consumers and society.
A Unified Effort for a Sustainable Future
The collaboration between LCA4BIO and ESCIB represents a significant step towards enhancing and standardizing methodologies for assessing the sustainability and circularity of bio-based systems. By combining our strengths and expertise, we aim to develop practical, applicable tools that facilitate the green transition of European industries. Our joint efforts will support innovation and the sustainability goals outlined in the European Green Deal and the Circular Economy Action Plan.
We are confident that this partnership will pave the way for a more sustainable and circular bio-based economy, bringing benefits not only to the environment but also to consumers and society as a whole.
