On 12 December 2025, the LCA4BIO project successfully hosted its third Co-Creation Workshop, bringing together stakeholders from across the bioeconomy to explore and validate the project’s emerging approach to circularity assessment in bio-based systems.
This interactive session introduced participants to the new methodology and digital tool currently under development within LCA4BIO. These innovations aim to support more accurate, future-oriented, and harmonized evaluations of circularity, offering practical guidance to industry, policymakers, and researchers working to strengthen sustainability within bio-based value chains.
A Collaborative Space to Shape the Future of Circularity
The workshop gathered experts from industry, academia, research institutes, and standardization bodies, fostering a collaborative environment to:
Discuss the needs and challenges of assessing circularity in bio-based products.
Provide feedback on the proposed LCA4BIO methodological framework.
Test key concepts behind the tool and identify functionalities that will improve real-world usability.
Contribute to the co-creation of guidance that facilitates sustainable decision-making.
Participants emphasized the importance of user-friendly interfaces, transparency in data requirements, and alignment with existing European sustainability policies.
Interactive Stakeholder Input Through Mentimeter
To enrich the discussion, the workshop included an interactive Mentimeter activity, where stakeholders provided real-time input on:
Their priorities and expectations for circularity assessment tools.
The most relevant indicators and metrics for evaluating circularity in bio-based systems.
Barriers they face when implementing circular strategies within their organizations.
Suggestions to ensure the tool’s applicability across diverse sectors.
These insights will directly feed into the refinement of the LCA4BIO methodology and tool, ensuring they reflect stakeholder needs and facilitate broad adoption.
Continuing the Co-Creation Journey
The 3rd Co-Creation Workshop marks a significant milestone in the project’s engagement strategy. By integrating diverse perspectives early in the development process, LCA4BIO reinforces its commitment to creating robust, transparent, and user-driven methods for assessing circularity in bio-based systems.
Stakeholders interested in joining future co-creation activities can register through the LCA4Bio Stakeholder Engagement Form.
Together, we are advancing the next generation of sustainability assessment tools and helping shape a more circular bioeconomy.
